Hujambo (Swahili for Hello), our East African coffee lovers!
This month’s Limited Edition is from Tanzania, and we’re excited to bring you a lot from the Mbeya region in Southern Tanzania. Kubwa Tano means Big Five in Swahili, which hunters coin for the most elusive and difficult animals to hunt on foot – the African lion, leopard, elephant, cape buffalo and rhinoceros.
Tanzania, known for its amazing natural beauty and incredible wildlife, is also widely known for some of the world’s highly regarded coffees, characterized by succulent flavours and bright, winey acidity.
The Kubwa Tano is a natural processed lot produced by small farmholders under the Agricultural Marketing Coorperative Society (AMCOS). Here, the families hand pick and deliver red and ripe cherries to their washing stations, where they are re-sorted and placed on African raised beds. To control the fermentation process and achieve optimal moisture content, the coffee is regularly turned and covered during the hottest part of the day and night against possible rain pour.
We roast this to a medium profile, elevating its sweet and fruity aroma. We love its grapes and berry notes, and while it is bright in acidity, we find it smooth and very easy to drink. We hope you enjoy this coffee, as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
