While Wakanda might be fictional, this farm in Rwanda is very much real and spectacular!
Unknown to many, Rwanda is one of the biggest sources of exciting coffees in East Africa. This exceptionally fertile Lake Kivu region offers some of the most flavourful, delicate and complex coffee profiles.
The Wakanda coffee cherry trees are grown at high altitudes, where the harvested cherries are floated in tanks before passing through a pulper. They are then transferred to fermentation tanks where they undergo 14 hours of dry fermentation. After being sorted in density grading channels, they are moved to raised African beds to dry for 16-20 hours. We’re honored to have the women of the land, skilled and passionate, to further sort the beans, so that you receive the best of the crop.
This coffee is very fruity, yet low in acidity from its medium dark roast. We find a pour over brews a highly aromatic cup, and love the natural sweetness that is amplified in the roast. We hope you enjoy this coffee as much as we do, and on behalf of the farmers, we’d like to say Urakoze, which means Thank You in Kinyarwanda, Rwanda’s official language.
