High in Rwanda’s Gicumbi District, Nova Coffee is a community champion led by Agnes Mukamushinja. Since 2013, Agnes and Felix Hitayezu have woven a story of quality and social responsibility, carefully processing coffees grown on farms nestled amidst volcanic peaks. Beyond a delicious cup, Nova contributes to equality, education, and community well-being. Agnes’ dedication extends even further through Café de Mama, an initiative empowering the women who are the backbone of the coffee industry.
This specific lot embodies this spirit. Grown at Nova under ideal conditions – rich volcanic soil, perfect sunshine, and ideal rainfall at 1,800-2,000 meters above sea level – these beans are a testament to the Rwandan spirit, particularly the pride and dedication of its women. Nova employs a special twist on the washed method for this lot. Instead of undergoing the full washing process to remove all fruit flesh (mucilage), these beans are diverted earlier. This intentional retention of some mucilage (redsidual mucilage) contributes layers of tartness and balanced by a touch of sweetness, while creating a well-rounded and satisfying experience with a distinct clarity and cleanness in both flavour and aroma, resulting in a captivating profile.
