It’s been a while since we’ve featured a certified organic bean, and so this July we’re excited to showcase one from the region of San Juan del Rio Coco in Nicaragua.
This Limited Edition crop is organic and fairtrade certified. This region has been certified organic since 1993. The objective of fair trade is to ensure that farmers receive a price that commensurate with their input. With your support, we are able to better contribute to the ecosystem of this region. Based in San Juan del Rio Coco, these farms are run by co-operatives of a few hundred individual farmers, of which a quarter are women.
It is currently certified under Organic USDA, Fair Trade International and Organic Canada.
The farmers grow this coffee on small farms of around 14 acres.. The washed process makes a clean cup, yet highlighting the crisp citrus notes, and a hint of acidity. We love the taste notes of spice and fruit, with a chocolate orange aftertaste.
