Gone are the days where we have to eat to live, and we are lucky enough to live to eat. In this modern age, we are spoilt by the vast variety of foods and drinks. However, it is no secret that the most nutritious and beneficial foods are always the most natural and fresh ones. This applies to everything we consume, including our daily coffee! So, here are some tips on how to fuel your body with freshness:
- Buy local beans
Freshness is critical to a quality cup of coffee. The first thing you can do to improve your coffee experience is to buy fresh, local beans. Don’t buy coffee that’s been sitting around on a shelf with a use by date of 12 months – these are already stale and dead! Look for coffee that has a ‘Roast On’ date and try to get it within a few days of roasting.
Why local? Well, other than the obvious point of supporting local businesses, you’re never going to get coffee roasted 2 days ago that is shipped from the other side of the world. Also, just think of the unnecessary additional carbon foot print – at some point, it would be great if we could all think of ways to protect our planet 🙂
- Get less coffee more frequently
Coffee begins to stale almost immediately after roasting. Instead of stocking up, just buy one small pack of freshly roasted coffee at a time, and consume it as close to roast date as possible. Freshly roasted coffee is alive, potent, and the flavour and aroma is unbeatable!
Sound inconvenient? Then look for a flexible coffee delivery service that can send you coffee within a few days of roasting. With Perk, we make it easy by conveniently sending you one pack at a time of freshly roasted coffee at an interval that suits your needs.
- Grind your own beans
Exposure to air is bad for your beans. When coffee is ground, the surface area exposed to air is greatly increased, speeding up the staling process. Get your own bur grinder and grind just enough coffee right before you brew your cup. The aroma of freshly ground coffee is a wonderful experience in itself!
